Tom (the groom) talks about his wedding day

It’s hard to believe that by the age of 32 neither me or my now wife had never been to Italy before, apart from half a day skiing in the alps cruising over from Switzerland. The Umbrian countryside has to be some of the most beautiful we’ve ever come across, it’s rustic charm, panoramic vistas and picturesque hamlets provide the perfect backdrop for a June wedding. And don’t get me started on the food!

Our wedding was at Castello Di Montignano, which for us Londoners is in the middle of nowhere and exactly what we were after for our wedding day. We are not traditional people and the wedding day it’s self started off with 40 or so people, bride and groom included playing water polo in the pool enjoy the beautiful Italian weather. It’s so rare to have so many friends, members of your family together we wanted to enjoy every minute of it and we certainly did!

The ceremony itself was held in the Castello due to the ominous clouds which were lingering overhead with the occasional rumble of thunder. Everything about the ceremony, my beautiful bride (now wife), the setting was perfect and there was hardly a dry eye among all the guests. It was the most emotional I have ever been and was receiving a constant supply of tissues from my groomsman.

We wanted the day to be a celebration for our marriage and be celebrated in such a way it reflects us as people and our personalities. As a result we wanted to create a formal party, fun and vibrant atmosphere that all our friends and family could enjoy and create the most amazing experiences.

We drank prosecco on the lawn overlooking the magnificent pool while eating some of the best meats and cheeses we’ve sampled. While all this was going on our photographer Sergio whisked Anastasia and I off to some beautiful locations of traditional Italian hamlets, sound of music style cornfields to take some photos of the day. The settings we visited where stunning and I will never forget holding my wife’s hand, posing for photos and the little dog that came to visit us who I just know will appear in some of the pictures! It really was magical.

As the sun went down we lit sparklers and Chinese lanterns which lit the sky. I remember taking a step back to take the whole day in, as I looked around I could see so many happy, smiling faces watching their lanterns float away. Being surrounded by people laughing, beaming smiles and the people closed to you for us is what a wedding is all about and that’s what made it amazing.

As the night progressed everyone was having so much fun, the atmosphere was of pure enjoyment and nobody cared about anything other than having fun. I think it was around 11pm when the first person, Moin one of my groomsman was pushed into the pool in his new suit by one of the bridesmaids. An hour later there were thirty people in the pool with trays of whisky being brought to them, now you don’t get that kind of service in the Ritz!

To summarise it was a magical day, people in their teens through to their  80s ate, drank, danced  and celebrated together. People who didn’t know each other embraced each other, everyone laughed together and had the time of their lives. It’s a day that we will remember was one of the best days of our lives and the memories will never be forgotten.
